Videoland Kids
While working at Beast Agency, we were asked to come up with a concept and design to let kids have their own little domain on the video streaming platform Videoland. A place where they can safely spend their time and parents don't have to check what their child is watching every five minutes.

Research
We started by identifying the target group and gathering background information. This group consisted of children up to six years old. A flowchart was made to see what is available to children and what should be kept hidden from them. Parents can set the amount of screen time and keep a history of what their child has previously viewed.
We found out children in this age group like being able to do more in the app besides watching movies. Therefore, the concept offered fun interactivity, such as choosing your favourite character and being able to turn the background lights on and off.
Discover their behaviour
During research, we discovered that young children benefit a lot from repetition of movies, pronounced use of colours and especially recognition from the real world. It provides them guidance in the moment they are experiencing. That is why large, mostly round buttons were used. The background also offers recognition in the form of a landscape.

Testing concepts
For most children, reading is still too difficult. Therefore, we wanted them to explore the environment themselves by using commonly used gesture patterns as much as possible, so they could intuitively swipe to see more of the content. We had children test the concepts created on different platforms to assess whether their interactions matched how we had them in mind.

Keep them safe
As a parent, you want your child to safely watch videos on the platform. That's why we've added a few extra layers of security and management. For example, to prevent children from watching too much video content, a time management feature has been designed. When the time is up, the video is stopped and the parent gets a notification on their phone.
