JUKE

JUKE is part of Talpa Network and is a digital platform which provides radio, podcasts and non-stop music throughout the Netherlands. We were tasked with designing a mobile app for their existing users, in addition to their just-launched web platform.

Extending platform

At the time the project started, only the web platform existed. The overall design had to be carried over to the mobile apps with a well thought out user onboarding based on data.

The wireframe process was based on research conducted at an earlier stage. It had to be a digital platform that is freely accessible, without having to register first.

Challenging parts

One of the most challenging parts was the player itself and how to navigate through radio channels. As a team we have designed a few concepts and I have created multiple prototypes to validate how users would go through channels in the most intuitive way. Ultimately we went for a horizontal navigation with large image tiles of radio deejays that the user can swipe through.

Designing a North Star

Halfway through the project, the project’s product owner asked me to come up with concept screens that would serve as a discussion with other stakeholders to see if the overall design could be pushed more towards his vision. One of his key points was to make the app more desirable and immersive with large images in the full-screen player. In the end, this round of concepts was put on hold.

End goal

Getting 4.5 out of 5 stars in just a few months with 1.6K reviews in Apple's App Store is a significant milestone. This reflects not only the quality of the app, but also the satisfaction of its users. Our journey to this goal was defined by attention to detail, continuous improvement and a commitment to customer feedback.
